Yellowstone River Outdoors is the result of the fusion between Swan's Fly Fishing and Montana Classic River Boat Tours. It was founded by Kari and Matt Swan, who first met while working in Yellowstone National Park. Kari, a Biologist, and Interpretive Ranger, crossed paths with Matt, who was guiding fly-fishing trips. Both shared a deep love for the greater Yellowstone watershed.

The birth of their daughter, Sophie Joy Swan, served as the catalyst for the establishment of Montana Classic Boat Tours. Motivated by a desire to impart their wealth of knowledge and experiences to both Sophie and their clientele, they embarked on this entrepreneurial journey. The company's dories, christened The Joy and Cygnet, pay tribute to Sophie, embodying the aspiration that she will perpetuate the river's fervor.

With over two decades of guiding experience, Matt Swan commenced his career in Montana and Yellowstone National Park back in 2000. Prior to this, he refined his skills at Lee's Ferry on the Colorado River and The Fly Shop in Redding, CA. Matt's commitment to professionalism and his wealth of expertise ensure that guests not only reel in catches but also gain valuable insights and thoroughly enjoy themselves amidst the scenic wonders of Montana and the Greater Yellowstone area. Furthermore, as a Federations of Fly Fishers Certified Casting Instructor, Matt adeptly caters to the needs of both novice anglers and seasoned pros alike.
